Capstone Reflection

For our Capstone Project, fellow Global Scholar Grayson G. and I had the opportunity to present to a class of 6th Graders. We were able to share about our recent work on our grant proposal, spread information about opportunities to get involved with Miry's List, teach the process of writing a grant from its conception to funding, and raise awareness about the work of the Global Scholars program.

For our grant proposal, Grayson and I helped fund the Miry's List S.A.N.A.H. program, so for our capstone we wanted to continue to focus on the organization, and the 6th graders were a really good audience for that as they have the chance to get involved with Miry's List early and stay involved with the Global Scholars program as they continue on at Poly. Going in, I thought the most challenging part would be effectively getting the 6th graders involved and interested in the program, but from the very start they were eager to ask questions and were pretty well educated on the kind of work we wanted to share about. We also took them through the process of writing a grant proposal, and while it's definitely a useful skill to develop, I think we might have gotten too technical with the process for them.

It was really great to experience teaching a class, especially to these 6th graders who were super attentive and receptive to what we were saying. It was nice to get to share about the work Grayson and I had been doing and I definitely hope students from that class will go on to become global scholars and find  organizations they want to write grants for to help.
